About MonkeySolve
Last updated
MonkeySolve (Monkey Solve) is a free online cubing timer and cube trainer for WCA event practice. Time your solves, review your progress and train cube-solving techniques in your browser. You can start without an account.
A cubing timer for WCA event practice
Use the online cubing timer for speedcubing practice on a computer, phone or tablet. Choose a puzzle event and session, follow a practice scramble, and time your solve or enter a result manually.
MonkeySolve supports 2×2 through 7×7 cubes, 3×3 one-handed, Clock, Megaminx, Pyraminx, Skewb and Square-1. Blindfolded practice includes 3×3, 4×4, 5×5 and multi-blind, with a separate fewest-moves event. Sessions keep your practice history organized by event.
Scrambles are generated locally using the csTimer engine. They are practice scrambles; official WCA competitions require the current approved TNoodle program.
How to use the cubing timer
- Choose your puzzle event and a session in the timer’s controls. Apply the displayed scramble to your puzzle before each attempt.
- Choose stopwatch timing or manual time entry. With inspection off, hold Space until the timer is ready, release to start, then press Space to stop. Touch controls are available on mobile.
- Enable inspection in Settings to practice with a countdown. On a computer, press Space once to begin inspection, then press and release Space again to start the solve. Apply a +2 or DNF penalty to a recorded solve when needed.
- Review your solve history and averages, then continue with the next scramble. Export important sessions or backups before clearing browser storage.
Review statistics and personal records
Review solve history, personal records, rolling averages and progress charts. Event and session filters keep different puzzles separate. Fewest-moves results are measured in moves, and multi-blind results use their own scoring rather than standard time averages.
For time events, ao5 and ao12 summarize your recent solves. An average of five removes the fastest and slowest result, then averages the remaining three. Use the average details to inspect which solves contributed to a result.
Is MonkeySolve an official WCA timer?
No. If you are looking for a WCA timer for personal practice, MonkeySolve provides event selection, optional inspection, penalties and practice statistics. It is a browser practice app, not official competition timing equipment, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the World Cube Association.
Your MonkeySolve solves and personal records remain practice results. Use the equipment, scramble software and procedures required by the organizer when attending an official competition.
Train F2L, OLL and PLL
The algorithm trainer offers first two layers (F2L), orientation of the last layer (OLL), permutation of the last layer (PLL) and full last-layer practice. OLL and PLL include case selection and 2D or 3D diagrams; F2L and last-layer practice use stage scrambles.
Choose Practice to work at your own pace, or Time Attack to set a drill duration and time per case. OLL and PLL drills can show or reveal case names to help practice recognition.
Keep your progress
Guest progress saves in this browser. Optional Google sign-in adds private cloud saves so you can restore your account’s progress on other devices. Guest solves are imported only when you choose to import them. You can export solves and backups in the app.
Browser storage can be cleared, so keep exports of important progress. Read the Privacy Policy for details about local storage, sign-in and cloud saves.
Make practice your own
Customize the theme, accent color, timer font, inspection and practice preferences in Settings. MonkeySolve’s focused interface is inspired by Monkeytype and built around the next solve.
